IPSWICH MAN WHO ASSAULTED MUM AND TODDLER SPARED JAIL – AGAIN
A man who was given a suspended sentence three years ago for assaulting a woman and her child as they walked down the street has avoided prison once again.
Kamil Kwiecinski was in the dock at Ipswich Crown Court, having admitted assaulting a former partner and her brother in Bramford Road in June of last year.
The assaults put 29-year-old Kwiecinski in breach of a suspended sentence imposed on him in December 2022 for an incident the preceding May.
A mother was walking along Sproughton Road with her son, three, when Kwiecinski rode part her on his bicycle and slapped her bottom and grabbed her between the legs.
She then heard her son crying and saw he had been hit on the head and was bleeding from a cut which was later glued at hospital.
The court heard that the child’s head injury was likely caused by the handlebars of Kwiecinski’s bike as he squeezed between a hedge and the buggy.
Kwiecinski, now of Fore Street, Ipswich, breached the terms of this sentence in 2023 by going on a Valentine's weekend with his partner instead of carrying out unpaid work.
Kwiecinski was back before the court on Tuesday, where it was heard that he assaulted his ex-partner in the street by spitting in her face, and then punched her brother leaving him with a split lip and swollen nose.
A member of the public called the police.
Judge David Wilson told the court that Kwiecinski’s offending behaviour began in Poland when he was convicted of robbery, and continued when he arrived in the UK.
In 2017, he was convicted of common assault, and of drink driving in 2019.
In May 2022, he lost his licence after being found unfit for driving through drink or drugs.
However, it was heard that Kwiecinski had been making progress with his mental health, and no longer drinks alcohol or consumes drugs.
Judge Wilson did not activate Kwiecinski’s prison sentence.
Instead, he was fined £50 and made subject of an 18-month community order, which includes wearing an electronic curfew for three months, up to 20 days of rehabilitation activities, and undertaking a mental health treatment program.
