PROPERTY MANAGER KAMAL BAINS JAILED AFTER CHILDREN DIE IN HOUSE FIRE
A property manager, Kamal Bains, was jailed for a year after two young children died in a house fire with no smoke alarms.
The judge described his failure to fit smoke alarms as a ‘significant cause’ of their deaths.
Logan Taylor, three, and Jake Casey, two, died when an electrical fault in a TV caused a fire in February 2016.
Bains, who managed the house through his property company Prime Property Estates, had been on trial for manslaughter but pleaded guilty to an alternative charge under the Health and Safety Act 1974.
The court was told Bains was the director of a company maintaining around 140 homes.
The judge emphasized the seriousness of his neglect, stating: “Your failure to fit smoke alarms was a significant cause of the children’s deaths.
Thus the harm caused by your failure could not have been more serious,” and added, “The lives of Logan and Jake were of infinite value and nobody must be in under any misapprehension about that.”
