KACEY CLARKE SENTENCED IN LEICESTER FOR FATAL STABBING OF FATHER
Kacey Clarke, an 18-year-old, was convicted of killing his father, Steve Clarke, at their family home on Southfields Drive in Leicester. The tragic incident took place in October 2018, when Clarke used a 'zombie knife' to inflict severe injuries, leading to substantial blood loss and internal bleeding. In August 2019, Leicester Crown Court sentenced Clarke to 10 years in a Youth Offenders Institute. His legal team argued that he was young, immature, and not as dangerous as initially perceived. However, Justice Bruce Fulford, during the Court of Appeal, dismissed these claims, stressing that Clarke remains a 'significant risk to the public.' The court was told that Clarke had taken cocaine before the attack, which was viewed as having caused a 'demonstrably excessive' reaction. Moreover, the judge highlighted that this was his third serious knife-related crime within seven months, reflecting a pattern of habitual knife carrying. Past offenses included stabbing a man five times over a drugs debt and assaulting a woman shortly afterward over the same issue. Though Clarke’s defense contended that his actions were context-specific, the court upheld the sentence, emphasizing concerns about his continued danger to society.
