JOYCE CASTOLDI FROM LEICESTER SENTENCED FOR DOWNLOAD OF NEARLY 6,000 INDECENT IMAGES OF YOUNG GIRLS
In a case that has shocked the community of Leicester, a man identified as Joyce Marco Castoldi, aged 40, has been sentenced after being found guilty of possessing a vast collection of illegal images depicting young girls.The incident came to light in January 2014 when authorities uncovered that Castoldi had downloaded nearly 6,000 indecent images onto his personal laptop, a discovery that has led to serious legal consequences.
Castoldi was charged with ten counts of possessing indecent images, with the offences spanning from June 2011 to May 2012.
The Leicester Crown Court heard that the investigation was initiated after his live-in partner, who resided with him in the city centre, discovered his illicit activity.
She found evidence of his access to child pornography on his laptop and promptly reported her concerns to the police, an action that ultimately resulted in the breakdown of their relationship.
The detailed evidence presented in court revealed the disturbing extent of Castoldi’s illegal collection.
The images were categorized into different levels of severity: 2,814 images and three films at level one, 59 images at level two, 1,098 images and five movies at level three, 1,386 images and ten films at level four, and a further eight images classified at the most serious level five.
This classification underscores the disturbing nature of the material involved.
When police apprehended Castoldi in May 2012, he initially denied any involvement, suggesting that an unknown individual might have used his laptop while he was away, claiming it had been left overnight in a pub.
Despite his denial, the evidence against him was substantial.
Castoldi, who resides on Prebend Street in Leicester, was subsequently sentenced to 16 months in prison, but the sentence was suspended for two years.
Additionally, he was ordered to participate in a sex offender rehabilitation program and was placed under supervision.
During the sentencing, Recorder David Mason QC acknowledged Castoldi’s acknowledgment of his problem and his willingness to seek treatment.
The judge emphasized that, given Castoldi’s lack of prior criminal history, incarceration was not deemed in the public interest.
Instead, the focus was on preventing further offending and ensuring he receives appropriate help.
Vasanti Vaitha, representing Castoldi, highlighted that he is now in a new relationship with a partner who is fully aware of his past offences and is actively supporting him in addressing his issues.
To monitor his future conduct, Castoldi was subjected to a sexual offences prevention order, which grants authorities the authority to oversee his computer usage.
Furthermore, he is required to register as a sex offender for the next ten years, ensuring ongoing oversight and community safety.
