TEEN KILLER JOSHUA DAVIES SENTENCED TO AT LEAST 14 YEARS
A teenage boy, aged 16, who assaulted his ex-girlfriend resulting in her death, has been sentenced to serve a minimum of 14 years in prison.Joshua Davies lured Rebecca Aylward, a 15-year-old girl from Maesteg, into a woodland area in Aberkenfig back in 2010, where he delivered fatal head injuries using a rock.
The judge at Swansea Crown Court characterized the killing as motivated by a deep-rooted hatred.
Throughout the trial, Davies insisted he was innocent, claiming that his friend was responsible for the murder.
He was convicted in July by a 10-2 jury majority and sentenced by Judge Mr Justice Lloyd Jones to an indeterminate sentence.
He will have to serve at least 13 years and 53 days before being eligible for parole.
Rebecca’s mother, Sonia Oatley, expressed her satisfaction with the sentencing, asserting that Davies warranted the death penalty and lamented the loss of her daughter’s potential.
Evidence presented in court revealed Rebecca’s body was found face down in the woods after she was reported missing, dressed in clothing bought for her the previous day.
The judge described the attack as cunning, deliberate, and controlling, noting that Davies showed no remorse.
It was also highlighted that Davies blamed a friend for the incident, a stance he maintained throughout, and the court acknowledged the severe and life-altering toll on Rebecca’s loved ones.
