MAN ATTACKED HIS WIFE TO THE POINT SHE LOST CONSCIOUSNESS
A man caused his wife serious facial swelling after violently throwing her to the ground and stomping on her head. She delayed seeking medical help for several days due to fear of her husband.
Allan Harries, aged 43, assaulted his spouse at their residence in Bridgend on March 9 last year following a breakfast dispute.
The defendant accused her of excessive alcohol consumption the night before and asked her to end the argument.
During a hearing at Cardiff Crown Court on Wednesday, it was described how Harries approached the victim as she stood by the kitchen sink, placing his arm around her neck in a headlock.
He then threw her to the kitchen floor and proceeded to lift his left leg, stomping on her face with his foot.
The force of the blow caused her head to hit the floor hard enough to cause her to lose consciousness.
Prosecutor Heath Edwards stated she recalled only lying on the floor, unsure if she could stand.
She experienced nausea and had blood running down her face.
As she attempted to rise, Harries covered his head with his hands and exclaimed, “Oh f***, what have I done?
Are you ok?” The woman then went to the toilet to vomit.
She was in considerable pain and later rested on the sofa.
Harries stayed in the house until 9 pm.
After his departure, she looked in the mirror and saw severe swelling on the right side of her temple, unable to open her right eye.
Bruises extended from her forehead to her neck and chest, along with dried blood on her face.
She hesitated to seek medical treatment for about nine to ten days, fearing her husband and worrying about her children’s safety.
She also lacked access to a phone, as Harries did not permit her to have one.
The police were contacted after she returned from work at a primary school, where colleagues expressed concerns.
She then visited the A&E department at Princess of Wales Hospital, where she underwent surgery to remove a lump from her head caused by dried blood.
Harries, who was detained at the Days Inn Hotel in Bridgend, claimed that he was the victim, asserting her injuries resulted from her falling to the floor during an attack on him.
He ultimately admitted to causing grievous bodily harm, and it was revealed he has four prior convictions for similar offenses.
During mitigation, lawyer Kevin Seal noted Harries’s military background, including tours in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Sierra Leone.
He added that the defendant now accepts that the relationship is over, considers himself a changed man, and has completed multiple courses while incarcerated.
Harries received a sentence of 27 months in prison.
