LOGAN MWANGI: THREE SENTENCED FOR MURDER
Three individuals received prison sentences for the murder of five-year-old Logan Mwangi, whose body was recovered by law enforcement in a river close to his residence in Sarn during July 2021.On Thursday, June 30, Angharad Williamson, aged 31, John Cole, aged 40, and 14-year-old Craig Mulligan appeared before Cardiff Crown Court.
They had previously been found guilty of murder and attempting to cover up the crime in April.
During a ten-week trial, the court was told how the accused conspired to hide Logan's death in the immediate hours after it occurred.
Logan’s body was discovered in the River Ogmore around 6 a.m.
on Saturday, July 31, following a 999 call made by his mother, Angharad Williamson.
Initially, the defendants claimed Logan had gone missing overnight, but police became suspicious and arrested all three suspects.
Investigations by the Major Crime Investigation Team subsequent to their arrests uncovered substantial evidence, leading to charges of murder.
A post-mortem examination authorized by the Home Office revealed that Logan had sustained over 56 injuries.
The forensic report described these injuries as being so severe that they matched those usually caused by a fall from a significant height or a high-impact vehicle collision.
John Cole was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 29 years.
Angharad Williamson was also sentenced to life, with a minimum of 28 years before being eligible for parole.
Craig Mulligan received a sentence of detention at Her Majesty’s pleasure with a minimum of 15 years to serve.
