MAN WHO RAPED SEX WORKER IN LIVERPOOL JAILED FOR NINE YEARS
Joseph Allan Smith was convicted at Liverpool Crown Court of raping the woman on 17 January 2022 in Liverpool.
Merseyside Police said Smith, 38, assaulted the woman, who was working as a prostitute, and then raped her in the Kensington district of the city.
Det Insp Rob Pritchard said: "No-one, whatever their profession, should be subjected to such violence and abuse." Smith, of no fixed abode, will spend nine years in jail and a further five on licence.
The victim was praised for her courage in reporting the attack which was described as a "terrifying assault" by Det Insp Pritchard.
"Merseyside Police treat violence against sex workers as a hate crime and this result shows that violence against women and girls will simply not be tolerated, whatever the circumstances," he added.
