BARRY MAN JOS SHIELDS JAILED FOR CONTROLLING AND THREATENING EX-PARTNER
Jos Shields, 34, of Gerddi Margaret in Barry, was arrested after a period of severe harassment towards his ex-partner Catalina Payne.
Shields left her numerous threatening messages, including statements like "I'll find out who it is and I swear to God I'll kill you and him," and "I'm going to shoot the c*** in the f***king face." He would turn up at her workplace, call her hundreds of times a day, and on one occasion entered her home without her knowledge and caused damage.
Shields was eventually jailed for 21 months on September 10 after admitting charges of harassment, causing fear of violence, and property damage.
During court proceedings, Catalina described the harassment as overwhelming and affecting her mental health, leading her to seek private counselling and develop PTSD, anxiety, and depression.
The court imposed a 10-year restraining order to protect her.
Shields’s actions included turning up at her gym, threatening her and her staff, and bombarding her with calls and abusive messages, which caused her to feel trapped and scared, realizing she felt worthless and degraded due to his controlling behavior.
Despite his imprisonment, Catalina fears her ex-partner's harassment might continue once he is released and feels there is insufficient support for victims of such controlling relationships.
