JONATHAN CORFIELD FROM MACCLESFIELD SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT IN CHEDLETON
In a disturbing incident that took place in July 2019, a young girl was subjected to a traumatic sexual assault in a wooded area in Cheddleton. The victim, only 11 years old, was playing near a rope swing when the offender, Jonathan Corfield, arrived in his vehicle and targeted her.
Corfield, a 39-year-old man from Tittesworth Estate, Blackshaw Moor, approached the girl as she was enjoying her time outdoors.
Without warning, he forcibly pulled her off the rope swing and dragged her towards a nearby bush.
It was in this secluded spot that he committed the sexual assault, causing significant distress and trauma to the young girl.
Fortunately, she managed to break free from Corfield’s grasp and ran to seek help from her family, who were nearby.
Following the incident, law enforcement authorities swiftly launched an investigation.
DNA evidence collected from the scene linked Corfield directly to the crime, leading to his arrest.
During legal proceedings, Corfield admitted to the charges of common assault in August 2019, and later, in November, he pleaded guilty to attempted kidnapping and sexual assault.
On Thursday, January 23, 2020, Corfield appeared before Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, where he was sentenced to eight years in prison.
The court also imposed an extended license period of four years, meaning he will be under supervision for an additional four years after his release.
In addition to his imprisonment, Corfield was subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which has been made indefinite, restricting his activities and contact with vulnerable individuals.
Furthermore, he is mandated to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions aimed at protecting the community from future harm.
