SUNDERLAND MAN SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND THREATS WITH KNIFE
A man named John Veitch has been convicted for his violent behavior towards his former partner.According to court reports, Veitch initially visited the woman's home to apologize after hitting her, but his actions escalated.
He struck her a second time, and later, he picked up a knife, stabbed it into the kitchen table, and threatened to kill her.
Visual evidence and victim statements revealed that Veitch shouted in her face, grabbed her by the shoulders, and hit her on the head before walking into the kitchen with the knife in his possession, then stating he was going to kill her and himself.
The incident was witnessed by her seven-year-old daughter, who was terrified.
The court heard detailed accounts from prosecutor Neil Pallister, including that Veitch had been drinking and was argumentative about his drug use.
The victim expressed in her statement her fear for her daughters and her love for Veitch, but she felt she needed to protect her children.
Veitch pleaded guilty to two counts of assault and threatening with a bladed article.
The judge, Sarah Mallet, sentenced him to 20 months in prison and imposed an eight-year restraining order against the woman and her children, emphasizing the seriousness of his actions despite understanding his remorse.
