NUNEATON MAN JAILED FOR CHILD SEXUAL EXPLOITATION
According to reports, 50-year-old John Russell of Salisbury Drive in Nuneaton has been handed a nine-year prison term after being convicted of multiple severe sexual offences involving a minor. His charges include five counts of sexual activity with a child, two counts of attempting to commit sexual acts with a minor, along with additional crimes such as taking indecent photographs of a child and sharing those images.
The grooming began in late 2019, when Russell engaged in online conversations with a girl under 16, using the pseudonym “Rogonad.” He planned to meet her in person, bought her presents including a mobile phone, and took her out on various occasions.
The grooming culminated with a distressing event where Russell took the girl to an abandoned location, tied her with a red cord, took photographs, and engaged in sexual acts.
During the investigation, authorities recovered these images and other evidence.
Russell was arrested on December 19, 2019.
Forensic analysis of his devices and the cord, which contained traces of the girl’s DNA, supported the case against him.
On October 17, 2023, he received his sentence and was ordered to be on the sex offenders register for life, alongside a lifelong sexual harm prevention order and a surcharge of £181.
Detective Sergeant Paul Vines from the Child Abuse Trafficking and Exploitation team stressed that Russell had exploited a child met via the internet.
He added that Russell would now serve nine years in prison while being under lifelong surveillance to prevent reoffending.
The officer stated, “He intentionally groomed and exploited a young girl he met online for sexual purposes.
He managed to operate covertly through online forums and messaging apps, and it’s only due to the victim’s family that his pattern of abuse was uncovered, which might have otherwise continued unchecked.”
