STOCKTON MAN JAILED FOR WIFE-BEATING AND THREATENING PARTNER
A violent thug used his partner as a ‘punch bag’ in a drink and drug fuelled rage before grabbing her by the throat and strangling her.John Rogan, 48, reacted angrily when he caught his partner looking at his mobile phone and launched into a violent and sustained attack on the woman.
During the assault, Rogan left his partner with cuts and bruises.
The court heard how Rogan was found hiding in a maintenance room when police arrived at the scene.
He had written letters to his victim, asking about the case against him, including one where he said: “tell me what you're thinking.
I'm looking at two to three years here.
Send me your number, if you decide to get me home.” Rogan pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and perverting the course of justice.
He was sentenced to 26 months in prison and was made subject to a ten-year restraining order to protect his victim.
The judge described Rogan as a bullying ‘wife-beater’ and emphasized that if he committed similar offenses again, he could face tripled sentences.
