DRUG USER JAILED AFTER ATTACK AND THEFT FROM STEP-DAD
A drug user who attacked and stole from his step-dad who tried to get him help has been jailed for nine months.
John Podgorski, of no fixed address, later assaulted a police officer during arrest.
The 36-year-old pleaded guilty to assault by beating, theft, assaulting an emergency worker and criminal damage.
On July 22 last year, Podgorski was visited by his step-dad at his house, who was concerned with his erratic behaviour after requesting money and shouting abuse - but refused to be taken to hospital.
His step-dad, who retreated to the garden and rang the police, was assaulted outside the house.
Podgorski stole £200 from his wallet before officers arrived.
On July 25 later that week, Podgorski was arrested.
The 36-year-old resisted and had to be been taken to the floor by officers.
Attempting to handcuff Podgorski, an officer was kneed in the head, causing pain and discomfort.
Podgorski was eventually restrained and taken to police custody.
In a holding cell he kicked out repeatedly at safety glass, causing it to become dislodged from the frame and put out of use.
Podgorski was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court on January 24.
