CWMBRAN SEX OFFENDER SENTENCED FOR CHILD ABUSE
John Paul Hughes is a sex offender previously residing in Cwmbran.He was convicted of child sexual assault and the distribution of a controlled substance to a minor in 2008.
Judge Christopher Morton sentenced him to 12 months’ imprisonment for the sexual crime and an additional 12 months for the distribution of cannabis.
It was reported that Hughes sexually assaulted an 11-year-old girl over a three-year period, during which he intoxicated her with cannabis.
He received a one-year prison sentence for grooming and abusing the child.
Hughes was prohibited from engaging in any employment involving minors and was mandated to register with the police as a sex offender for ten years, although this period has now concluded, and he is no longer under surveillance.
Currently, he has been observed walking his dog in Cwmbran and prompting children to pet it.
