JOHN LAMB FROM FRASERBURGH SENTENCED FOR GROOMING A 10-YEAR-OLD GIRL NEAR ELGIN
In September 2017, John Lamb, a resident of Fraserburgh, was convicted of sending sexual messages to a 10-year-old girl in a clear example of grooming. Lamb communicated with the young girl over more than a month, specifically from October 16, 2015, to December 4, 2015. The victim’s mother discovered the messages, bringing the offense to light.Lamb, who resides on Fernie Place, appeared at Elgin Sheriff Court yesterday for sentencing after being found guilty at trial. During the hearing, defence solicitor Robert Cruickshank maintained Lamb’s innocence, despite the court’s verdict. It was also revealed that Lamb had committed a similar offense 34 years earlier. Mr. Cruickshank commented, “Clearly, he was a much younger man then.” He additionally noted that Lamb is considered vulnerable in a prison environment and requires medication. Regarding rehabilitation, Cruickshank stated that Lamb is suitable for the Moving Forward Making Changes programme, which aims to protect the public.
The messages were sent from Lamb’s address in Buckie. Prosecutor Robert Weir requested monitoring conditions for Lamb, citing concerns that he is a “high risk.” The court found Lamb guilty of intentionally communicating via social media with a 10-year-old girl in a sexual manner.
Sheriff Olga Pasportnikov acknowledged Lamb’s continued denial of the offense but emphasized her view that the case was “a classic example of grooming,” as she told Lamb during sentencing. She ordered Lamb to complete 200 hours of unpaid work, register as a sex offender for three years, and observe a four-month curfew.
