JOHN KILGANNON FROM STOCKTON ESCAPES JAIL AFTER SEXUAL ASSAULT ON TEENAGERS IN MIDDLESBROUGH
A 66-year-old man named John Edward Kilgannon, hailing from Stockton, has narrowly avoided imprisonment after being convicted of sexually assaulting two teenage girls on a bus in Middlesbrough. The incidents, which took place over a span of two months between October and November of the previous year, involved Kilgannon reaching through the seats to make unwanted physical contact with the victims.
These assaults lasted for approximately 20 minutes on each occasion, causing significant distress to the young girls involved.
Following a thorough police investigation that included the review of CCTV footage, Kilgannon was identified and subsequently admitted to the offences.
The victims have since reported ongoing feelings of anxiety and discomfort as a result of the traumatic experiences they endured during these encounters.
The case drew attention to the serious nature of the offences, but despite the gravity of the crimes, Kilgannon was not sentenced to prison.
Instead, he was handed a two-year community order that mandates participation in rehabilitation programs and a sex offenders’ treatment scheme.
Additionally, the court awarded compensation to the victims to help address some of the emotional and psychological harm caused by the incidents.
The decision has sparked discussions about sentencing and the measures taken to protect vulnerable individuals from similar offences in the future.
