HUDDERSFIELD MAN JAILED FOR KICKING HIS PARTNER AND ALCOHOL-RELATED ASSAULT
A man who kicked his partner’s bottom in a row after her mother bought their children presents has been ordered to undergo alcohol treatment.John Furey was drunk and had little recollection of the attack at the Bradley Mills home of Tracey Marsden.
The 30-year-old had pleaded guilty to assault at an earlier hearing at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court.
The row with his partner and mother-of-four had broken out at the address in Town Avenue on November 21.
Vanessa Jones, prosecuting, said: “He became verbally aggressive towards her.
They argued about her mother who had visited bringing some presents for the children.
He was under the impression she’d put her mother under some pressure to buy these presents.” The court was told that Furey, of Lockwood Road in Lockwood, then called Ms Marsden’s mother to ask about these presents.
Sensing his aggression she called police who attended at Ms Marsden’s home.
Furey returned after they left, kicking and banging on the door to be let in.
Mrs Jones said: “Eventually she opened the door and he continued to be verbally aggressive towards her.
“He said: ‘I know it was your mother who called police – I’m going to kill her and your family’.” Ms Marsden then headed upstairs to pack up some of Furey’s belongings.
As she ran past him he swore at her and kicked her bottom.
Paul Blanchard, mitigating, explained that his client was heavily in drink at the time and couldn’t remember much about the incident.
Magistrates sentenced Furey to six months of alcohol treatment and 30 days of activities as part of a community order.
He also has to undertake 40 hours of unpaid work and pay £85 costs and £60 victim surcharge.
