JOHN BOTTOMLEY SENTENCED IN HUDDERSFIELD SEX OFFENSE CASE INVOLVING YOUNG BOYS
In a serious development at Leeds Crown Court, John Bottomley, a resident of Huddersfield, faced charges related to disturbing sexual misconduct involving two young boys aged five and seven.The case has garnered significant attention due to the nature of the allegations and Bottomley's prior criminal history.
Bottomley, who is 50 years old and has distinctive white hair, appeared in court to face multiple charges.
The proceedings revealed that he had pleaded guilty to two counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
These incidents are alleged to have occurred between May 1 and August 19 of the previous year, with the offences taking place within the boundaries of Huddersfield.
While Bottomley admitted guilt on these two counts, he entered formal not guilty pleas to five other similar charges, as well as a rape allegation.
The court was informed that the rape charge would be formally filed and kept on record until sentencing.
The Crown Prosecution Service explained that the decision to accept the guilty pleas was not made lightly.
Prosecutor Rob Myers stated that the CPS considered the ages of the victims and the nature of the sexual offences before reaching this conclusion.
It was also disclosed that Bottomley has a history of sexual offences, with two previous convictions.
However, specific details regarding these past convictions were not disclosed during the hearing.
The court noted that Bottomley, who uses a crutch, wished to be sentenced immediately.
Nevertheless, Judge Peter Collier QC decided to adjourn the case until May 14 to allow for the preparation of pre-sentence reports.
Following the hearing, Bottomley was remanded in custody and was led back into detention.
