A school janitor was dismissed after becoming engaged to Lisa Miller, an 18-year-old ex-student.

Miller, who was a pupil at Woodfarm High in East Renfrewshire, proposed to 60-year-old Jim Kerr during an outing at the Scottish International Airshow in Ayr last Friday.

Jim Kerr worked at the same school as the caretaker.

According to reports, the couple announced their relationship in November of the previous year and currently reside together in Thornliebank, East Renfrewshire.

The public reaction on social media has been mixed.

Darren Law, a former student of Woodfarm High, posted a photo of the engagement with the comment: "No chance.

Hahaha," and added, "A girl in the year below me has got engaged to our school's janny.

Fear." The post garnered over 2,000 likes and hundreds of comments.

Jim Kerr's daughter, Allison Kerr, commented: "It's my dad and I'm 32, so imagine how my family feels seeing that." A person named Arooj Fatima Malik questioned: "I wonder what the school thinks about this and whether he still works there?!" She also pointed out that Miller was only 18, which she considered wrong.

In the video, Lisa Miller can be heard saying to Jim: "Jim, we've been going out for just under a year and I love you so much.

I wouldn't swap you for the world and, marry me?" The footage then shows Jim smiling and replying, "Yes, definitely," before the couple shares a kiss.

After the proposal, Miller is seen wiping away tears and cuddling her fiancé.

Some social media users speculated that Jim Kerr had left his wife for Lisa Miller.

Allison Kerr told The Scotsman over the phone: "We have nothing to do with him anymore," but declined to comment further.

East Renfrewshire Council confirmed that Jim Kerr no longer works at the school.

A council spokesperson stated: "This individual no longer works at the school.

He was not a council employee but was employed by the PFI contractor for the campus." Details about his period of employment and any link to his relationship with Lisa Miller have not been disclosed.

It was later revealed that Kerr was dismissed immediately once his relationship with Miller came to light.

A spokesperson for his employer, BAM, explained: "We were informed about this in March and suspended him the same day.

The school was fully aware and informed via email." The spokesperson also said: "He had worked at the school for ten years.

The student had left the school and was over the age of consent when we learned of the relationship.

Legally, no wrongdoing occurred at that time, but professionally, we took appropriate action.

The investigation has now concluded."
