ALEXANDER ELLIOTT AND REPREHENSIBLE SEXUAL ABUSE IN RENFREWSHIRE

A disturbing case of sexual abuse involving Alexander Elliott, a carer from Paisley in Renfrewshire, has culminated in a two-year prison sentence.

Elliott, aged 34, was convicted of multiple serious offenses carried out between 2018 and 2021, including the abuse of a disabled man he was entrusted to care for, as well as acts of sexual misconduct involving a minor and a relative of his girlfriend.

The conviction was handed down at Paisley Sheriff Court, where Elliott was found guilty of sexually assaulting a disabled man on two separate occasions—once in January 2018 and again in January 2021.

The court heard that the victim was a man confined to a wheelchair, requiring assistance with everyday tasks, including bathing.

Elliott was responsible for helping him with personal hygiene, providing shower assistance while the victim sat on a seat within the shower area.

During these caregiving moments, Elliott made inappropriate and sexual remarks towards the man.

Evidence presented and accepted by the court indicated that Elliott had directed water towards the victim’s private areas and made lewd comments; however, these specific allegations were ultimately withdrawn by the jury before reaching a verdict.

Further disturbing details emerged relating to Elliott’s actions in 2019 when he targeted a woman who was related to his girlfriend.

The court was shown messages in which Elliott sent her communications of a lewd, sexual, and indecent nature, highlighting his pattern of exploiting vulnerable individuals close to him.

Additionally, Elliott was found guilty of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl between May and June 2021.

The court heard that during this assault, he removed her bed covers, touched her inappropriately, and pressed his body against hers in a sexual manner.

He also engaged in sending her sexual messages, which the jury determined were intended to elicit sexual gratification or to humiliate, distress, or alarm her.

The messages were clearly of a lewd and indecent nature, Despite his convictions, Elliott’s legal team initially argued for a lenient approach, requesting that he be spared imprisonment due to health issues and his status as a first-time offender.

His solicitor, Gemma Elder, pleaded for him to receive a Community Payback Order with maximum hours of unpaid work alongside supervision, citing his sciatica and inability to work as reasons.

She also proposed an alternative of a Restriction of Liberty Order—an electronic tag with a home curfew—to mitigate the severity of his punishment.

However, the presiding Sheriff Hugh McGinty rejected these pleas.

In his sentencing remarks, Sheriff McGinty highlighted Elliott’s betrayal of trust and the vulnerability of his victims.

He emphasized that Elliott, as a carer, held a position of responsibility, which he exploited for personal sexual gratification.

The Sheriff pointed out that the pattern of offending involved highly vulnerable individuals, making the breaches of trust even more egregious.

Sheriff McGinty stated, “You were convicted of sending indecent and sexually suggestive messages to one of your girlfriend’s relatives.

You were a carer for your victim, who required a significant amount of assistance due to his disability, and you directed sexual comments to him while you were washing him.

You sexually abused a girl when she was 15 years old and thereafter communicated sexually with her.

The common denominator is that all of your victims were highly vulnerable and you were, unfortunately for them, in a position of trust as far as you were concerned.

I form the view that the only appropriate sentence is one of imprisonment.” Consequently, Sheriff Hugh McGinty backdated the jail sentence to last month, coinciding with the completion of the trial and the jury’s guilty verdict.

Alexander Elliott was thus sentenced to serve a two-year term behind bars for his reprehensible conduct, reinforcing the seriousness of his crimes within the community of Renfrewshire and the importance of accountability for such violations.
