MAN JAILED FOR GROOMING AND ABUSING 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL VIA FACEBOOK
A 40-year-old man from Stockton, Jason Miles Robinson, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for using the internet to groom and sexually abuse a girl, starting from when she was 12 years old.
The incident involved Facebook as the platform used for grooming.
Robinson had engaged in a relationship with the girl which he manipulated into sexual activity over a period of three years.
The court heard that he had been in his mid-30s at the time of the initial offenses, and he had been convicted of multiple charges including raping a child under 13, sexual activity with a girl under 13, and sexual assault on a girl under 13, spanning from 2006 to the previous year.
Despite protests of innocence, Robinson was found guilty and received a sentence of 15 years.
The judge, Howard Crowson, stated that Robinson showed no remorse and continued to deny the offenses, and he ordered Robinson to register as a sex offender for life, and prohibited him from working with children or having unsupervised contact with minors.
The court highlighted the impact on the victim, who developed an eating disorder and felt embarrassed to go to the police, despite her suffering over these years.
The police and court officials emphasized that such cases send a strong message to offenders that justice will be served.
