JASON LAWRENCE SENTENCED IN HINCKLEY AND NOTTINGHAM FOR MULTIPLE SEXUAL OFFENCES
In a significant development in the ongoing investigation into sexual offences, Jason Lawrance, a man originally from Hinckley, Leicestershire, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term following his conviction for multiple new charges. The sentencing took place at Nottingham Crown Court on October 3, where Lawrance received a life sentence, with a minimum term of 15 years before he becomes eligible for parole.Lawrance, aged 53, was previously convicted in 2016 on five counts of rape, one count of attempted rape, and one count of sexual assault. His earlier conviction resulted in a life sentence with a minimum term of 12 and a half years. The 2016 case was based on allegations that Lawrance had contacted and met women through the Match.com dating website, leading to criminal acts of a sexual nature.
Following extensive publicity surrounding his initial conviction, additional women came forward to police, claiming they too had been sexually assaulted by Lawrance after meeting him via the same online platform. One woman reported that she had initially made contact with Lawrance through Dating Direct, another dating site. These new allegations prompted a fresh investigation by a dedicated team of officers.
In January of this year, Lawrance was formally charged with seven counts of sexual offences. The charges were further expanded in May to include two additional counts of rape. Lawrance, who is currently serving his sentence at HMP Nottingham, faced trial in July at Nottingham Crown Court.
During the trial, Lawrance was found guilty of five counts of rape, one count of sexual assault, and one count of assault by penetration, all relating to five different women. He was acquitted of two other charges of rape. The offences for which he was convicted occurred between November 2009 and July 2014, spanning the counties of Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, and Suffolk.
This case highlights the serious consequences of sexual misconduct and the importance of thorough investigations, especially when new evidence emerges after initial convictions. Lawrance’s sentencing underscores the judicial system’s commitment to holding offenders accountable for their actions, regardless of the time elapsed or the locations where the crimes took place.
