CHELSEA CLAYTON, JAMIE LEE WILSON, AND DEAN SMEDLEY FROM SALFORD CONVICTED FOR HORRIFIC ANIMAL ABUSE

A disturbing case of animal cruelty involving three individuals from the Salford area has come to light, revealing a series of brutal attacks on a helpless dog named Bob.

The incident took place at a property on Memorial Road in Walkden, where neighbors captured footage of the abuse, prompting a thorough investigation by the RSPCA.

According to reports, Jamie Lee Wilson, born on 24 August 1994 and residing on Birch Road, Walkden, was filmed repeatedly punching Bob in the backyard of a house occupied by his partner, Chelsey Clayton.

Clayton, born on 22 March 1993 and living on Memorial Road, was also recorded attacking the dog.

The footage showed Clayton striking Bob, who was yelping in pain, and Wilson engaging in a prolonged assault that included grabbing, throwing, and punching the animal.

Despite the dog being partially obscured in some frames, the evidence clearly depicted Wilson raising his fists and delivering multiple blows.

The footage captured over a span of more than a minute revealed Bob crying out and visibly distressed, with Anna McDonald, the RSPCA prosecutor, describing the scene as one where the dog was screaming and suffering unnecessarily.

At the conclusion of the video, Wilson was seen holding Bob up and delivering a punch to his head.

The incident occurred on 17 August 2017, prompting immediate action from authorities.

Following the attack, an RSPCA inspector, accompanied by police officers, visited the property and seized all animals present for their safety and protection.

Bob was examined by a veterinarian who found a laceration to his lip but no other injuries requiring treatment.

The vet confirmed that any animal subjected to such violence would have suffered unnecessary pain and distress.

Both Clayton and Wilson faced charges of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal.

These charges were proven in their absence during a hearing held in February 2018.

Dean Smedley, born on 1 August 1992 and residing at Willow Tree Court in Eccles, was identified as Bob’s owner at the time of the attack.

The prosecution argued that Smedley failed to intervene or prevent the abuse, and he was subsequently convicted of two counts of neglect for not taking steps to stop the violence.

In the aftermath of the case, RSPCA Inspector Vicky MacDonald expressed her outrage, stating, “This was a really shocking case which is reflected by the sentences handed down.

I’m really grateful to the witnesses who came forward to take a stand against this kind of behaviour who, in doing so, enabled us to conduct this investigation, and to the police for the help that I received from them throughout.” Regarding sentencing, Jamie Lee Wilson received a 14-week prison term and was banned from keeping animals for ten years, a ban set to expire in June 2028.

His legal team has lodged an appeal against this sentence.

Chelsey Clayton was sentenced to eight weeks in prison, suspended for a year, and ordered to pay £200 in costs.

She was also disqualified from keeping animals for eight years, with this ban ending in June 2026.

Dean Smedley, who was sentenced in May 2018, received an 18-week suspended prison sentence, two years of probation, 150 hours of unpaid work, and a seven-year ban from keeping animals, which will expire in May 2025.

This case highlights the ongoing issue of animal cruelty in the Manchester area, and the importance of community vigilance and swift action by authorities to protect vulnerable animals from such heinous abuse.
