BANGOR BINGE-DRINKER JAILED FOR STRANGLING EX-PARTNER
A self-confessed binge-drinker from Bangor has been sentenced to 18 months in prison after repeatedly strangling his ex-partner, as well as punching her and breaking her phone.
Jamie Fleming, aged 34 and residing on Tan Y Bryn Road, was found guilty at Caernarfon Crown Court on March 6.
The court heard that Fleming caused his ex-partner to lose a tooth during the attack on January 3.
According to prosecutor Rosemary Proctor, Fleming's relationship with the woman lasted several months but turned violent.
On multiple occasions, he choked her with such force that she was unable to breathe.
The incident involved Fleming punching her after they woke up from drinking and causing her to lose a tooth.
He also dragged her back into his flat after she tried to leave and broke her mobile phone by throwing it.
The woman has since been prescribed antidepressants.
Fleming has 10 previous convictions for 14 offences, but he expressed remorse and blamed his behavior on alcohol abuse, though he does not consider himself an alcoholic, only a binge-drinker.
The judge described Fleming’s behavior as 'prolonged and persistent' and imposed an 18-month prison sentence along with a 10-year restraining order to protect his ex-partner.
Fleming was also ordered to pay £187 in compensation.
