BANGOR MAN JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT AND ISSUED TEN-YEAR HARASSMENT ORDER
A man from Bangor has been sentenced to 18 months in prison and was also issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) for ten years after he was found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman.
Gethin Jones, aged 40, of Garth Road, appeared at Caernarfon Crown Court on Friday, January 10, after he admitted to the sexual assault.
The court heard that on December 18, Jones approached a woman he did not know, put his arms around her shoulders, and attempted to guide her into a nearby alleyway.
He began making sexual comments which caused the woman to fear for her safety.
The woman tried to walk away, but Jones followed her, making remarks about her tattoos, touching her back, and continuing to make sexual remarks.
She managed to escape by running towards a group of people nearby, after which Jones fled the scene.
Acting District Inspector Andrew Davies said: “It is our priority to tackle violence against women and bring perpetrators to justice.
I commend the victim who was extremely brave during a frightening experience which happened in the middle of the day.” He also added: “There is no doubt that this incident will have a lasting impact on her feeling of safety.
I support the use of the SHPO which prohibits Jones from approaching and harassing women in the future.” Gethin Jones was sentenced after he admitted to the charges, and the court's decision reflects a serious attempt to protect women and uphold safety in the community.
