NOTTINGHAM MAN SENTENCED FOR TRAGIC TRIPLE MURDER IN CLIFTON
A 31-year-old man named Jamie Barrow was convicted of killing his neighbor and her two young children in Clifton, Nottingham.The incident happened when Barrow poured petrol into the letterbox of Fatoumatta Hydara's residence, causing a fatal fire.
Sadly, the fire claimed the lives of the two children, Fatimah Drammeh, aged 3, and Naeemah Drammeh, aged 1, while their mother, Fatoumatta, aged 28, died two days later from smoke inhalation.
After the fire, Barrow was seen walking his dog and chatting with police officers, smiling broadly and asking about the severity of the situation, footage recorded on police bodycam showed.
On July 4, 2023, at Nottingham Crown Court, he was found guilty of three counts of murder and arson.
Barrow admitted to feeling profoundly sad and experiencing self-pity due to his diagnosis of emotionally unstable personality disorder but denied intending harm.
Prosecutors argued that the act was deliberate, with Barrow showing reckless disregard for others’ safety and deriving satisfaction from starting fires, which served as a form of release for him.
During the trial, he was unable to provide a reason for targeting the neighbor, claiming he thought her flat was unoccupied.
He was sentenced to life imprisonment, with sentencing set for the upcoming Friday.
After the verdict, the victim’s husband, Aboubacarr Drammeh, shared a heartfelt statement expressing the pain caused by Barrow’s actions and emphasizing the loss of potential and the trauma inflicted on their family.
He described Fatoumatta as a loving person and an excellent mother, his short life marked by love and happiness.
The community and Crown Prosecution Service voiced their sorrow and affirmed that justice was fulfilled in the wake of this tragic loss of three innocent lives.
