NOTTINGHAM MAN JAILED FOR LIFE AFTER MURDERING PARTNER IN CHILD DISPUTE
A man who stabbed his former partner to death following a row over their child has been sentenced to life imprisonment.
James Sullivan, aged 22, from Maltby Close, Aspley, Nottingham, pleaded guilty to the murder of Sara West, aged 21, at her home on Aspley Lane in October 2010.
Nottingham Crown Court was told that Sullivan had become increasingly angry about the lack of contact with his son.
Judge Michael Stokes stated that Sullivan must serve a minimum of 20 years before being considered for parole.
The court detailed that after Ms West was stabbed in the neck, Sullivan left her house with their two-month-old son.
When police stopped him on a bus, they found the knife in a bin liner in the child's pushchair.
Judge Stokes remarked, "To kill a mother in this horrific way simply because you disagreed with her views about your child is almost beyond belief."
