JAMES SPEDDING FROM MANSFIELD SENTENCED FOR RAPE IN SHOCKING INCIDENT

A man identified as James Spedding, a known resident of Mansfield, has been sentenced to prison after being convicted of raping a woman while she was asleep.

The incident, which took place on the night of 15 March 2022, involved a disturbing assault that has left the victim deeply traumatized.

According to reports, Spedding and the victim, who were familiar with each other, had been drinking together during the evening.

As the night progressed into the early hours of the following morning, the woman awoke to find Spedding lying on top of her in a manner that indicated a sexual assault.

The victim, described as vulnerable and unable to give consent at that moment, confided in her family members about the incident.

Her family promptly reported the matter to the police, initiating an investigation into the assault.

Spedding, aged 26 and residing in Mansfield, was quickly arrested following the police response.

During the subsequent investigation, the victim was interviewed and received support from specialist officers trained to handle such sensitive cases.

Despite Spedding’s denial of the rape accusation, the case proceeded to trial at Nottingham Crown Court.

In November of the previous year, the jury found him guilty of the charges.

On Thursday, 13 February, Spedding was formally sentenced to seven years in a secure hospital facility.

In addition to his custodial sentence, he was issued a 10-year restraining order, which prohibits him from contacting the victim or approaching her in any way.

Furthermore, he is required to register as a sex offender with the police indefinitely under the Sexual Offences Act, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities to protect the public from potential harm.
