JEALOUS HUSBAND MURDERS WIFE IN HEARTBREAKING GLENROTHES ATTACK
A man identified as James McKenzie, aged 61, committed a brutal murder by stabbing his estranged wife, Denise Grieve, to death in her flat in Glenrothes in March.McKenzie believed falsely that she was pregnant with another man's child and acted out of jealousy after learning she was seeing Robert Graham, whom she had previously dated.
The court heard that McKenzie and Ms Grieve, aged 48, had separated in October of the previous year after a turbulent relationship, though McKenzie still considered them to be a couple.
On the day of the attack, McKenzie assaulted Ms Grieve while she was sitting on her stairs after a bath, pinning her down and stabbing her with a knife.
During the attack, their 19-year-old daughter tried to intervene, jumping onto her father's back and attempting to grab the weapon.
McKenzie then fled the scene in her car.
Police stopped him on a farm track, and he admitted to stabbing his wife, stating, "I stabbed her - I did not want to but I had to." The court was told that Ms Grieve sustained 10 stab wounds, two of which penetrated her heart, leading to her death.
McKenzie also carried out a failed attempt to take his own life in prison and expressed in police interviews that he was glad he was the last person she saw.
He was convicted of murder, pled guilty, and his case was adjourned for sentencing.
The court was informed that he also considered killing their children and Mr Graham.
The judge, Lord Turnbull, adjourned the case until the following month when McKenzie was to learn his life sentence's punishment part.
