NOTTINGHAM MAN JAILED FOR LIFE FOR BRUTAL MURDER OF AUTHOR JULIE SEMPER
A man named James McCarthy, aged 25, from Calverton, was convicted of murdering the author and teacher Julie Semper in her own home.
The attack involved strangulation and stabbing.
Ms Semper, aged 47, was found dead on 4 February at her residence on Magdala Road, Nottingham.
A post-mortem revealed she was stabbed 13 times and succumbed to blood loss.
McCarthy had previously pleaded guilty to her killing and also admitted attempting to murder Dean Staniforth at HMP Nottingham on 2 June.
He was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 28 years for the attacks.
The court described the assault as "callous," and the judge ordered a minimum of 21 years for the murder.
Ms Semper's family expressed devastation and grief, with her daughter Sherilyn Cass stating, "You robbed me of my mother, you robbed my son of his grandmother.
You have ruined my life.
You have destroyed my life." Nottinghamshire Police described McCarthy as an "evil individual," and the court's ruling emphasizes the brutality of his crimes and the long sentence he will serve.
