STOCKPORT MAN JAILED FOR HEINOUS RAPE AND ASSAULT
Jake McMahon, who previously lived on Manor Road in Stockport, was found guilty of severe sexual misconduct and received a lengthy 21-year prison sentence in November 2023.The charges against him included two counts of rape, assault, and controlling and coercive behavior.
His conviction was based on abuse that took place between February and June 2022, during which he repeatedly raped a woman and continued to assault her despite her protests.
She warned him to stop and mentioned that he had nearly killed her a few days earlier.
After his arrest in Manchester in August 2022, McMahon faced multiple charges, including three counts of rape, section 18 assault, section 47 assault, and controlling and coercive behavior.
The first trial in January 2023 resulted in a split jury regarding the rape allegations.
Following a retrial in November 2023, he was found guilty of all charges except one count of rape.
The court described him as 'a danger to women' and noted his lack of remorse and absence of empathy.
The judge remarked that McMahon's behavior during the court sessions was 'somewhat volatile,' and expressed concern about the jury’s perception based on body language, which was addressed to maintain fairness.
The Court of Appeal dismissed his challenge to the conviction, ruling that there was no evidence of bias or prejudice from the jury and that his appeal was baseless and caused unnecessary delays.
Authorities praised the victim for her courage in reporting the assault, which ultimately led to McMahon’s arrest and imprisonment.
Merseyside Police reported that the victim sustained serious injuries and disclosed the incidents after being manipulated by McMahon.
Prior to discharging the jury, McMahon’s legal team attempted to have the jury dismissed over potential prejudice; however, appellate judges upheld the original verdict, finding no evidence of misconduct or bias that could have affected the trial’s outcome.
