NUNEATON MAN JAILED FOR ATTEMPTED RAPE AFTER BREAK-IN AND ASSAULT
A man named Jack Braidwood from Nuneaton has been sentenced to nine years in prison for his involvement in an attempted rape.The incident occurred in March 2015 when he climbed through a basement window into a woman's home in Chorlton in the early hours.
He was a 28-year-old chef at the time and was found guilty of attempted rape earlier that year.
Braidwood attacked the woman while she was asleep, forcing his way into her home despite his 6ft 3in frame fitting through a small ventilator window which required considerable determination and ingenuity.
During the assault, he attempted to manipulate the victim into believing she had consented to sex and then tried to control the situation by talking to her, sharing a cigarette, and walking around her flat turning on lights before getting back into bed with her and putting his arm around her.
The victim initially thought she was dreaming but realized the truth and told him to leave.
Braidwood was arrested later that morning at an address in Withington after the victim called emergency services.
At the time of the offence, he was on licence for a previous sentence for GBH.
Prosecutors described him as an 'arrogant, narcissistic' individual who tried to cover his tracks with low cunning.
The judge, Judge Paul Reid QC, sentenced him to nine years with an extended three-year licence period, emphasizing that Braidwood posed a danger to women.
The victim stated her life changed drastically due to the incident, feeling frightened and unable to live in her previous neighborhood.
