PARANOID HUSBAND WHO MURDERED BROTHER OVER SEX ROW GETS LIFE IN BATLEY
A 'paranoid' husband named Ibrahim Mahetar, aged 35, was convicted of murdering his brother Naseer Mahetar in their parents' backyard on Town Street in Batley on August 31 of the previous year. The court was told that Ibrahim believed Naseer had engaged in sex with his wife Sabrina Mamaniat.
During the attack, Ibrahim battered Naseer with a baseball bat and then stabbed him three times—once in the heart, once in the head, and once in the arm.
The murder weapon was never recovered but is believed to have been a tool similar to a spark plug cleaner.
The incident occurred in front of Naseer Mahetar's wife Asma Daji, who attempted to defend her husband while holding their two-year-old daughter.
Their children witnessed the attack as Naseer was dying, and their mother, Aysha Mahetar, also saw her youngest son die.
The court sentenced Ibrahim to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 16 years and 188 days.
The judge commented that Ibrahim's irrational obsession about his wife's fidelity drove him to violence.
During the trial, Ibrahim recorded himself interrogating his wife about an alleged affair, which she confirmed had occurred on one occasion.
The judge noted Ibrahim did not plan the killing but did intend to kill Naseer when he stabbed him three times, and he expressed remorse, criticizing Ibrahim's irrational belief that his wife had been unfaithful as the motive for the murder.
