MAN JAILED FOR BREACHING A RESTRAINING ORDER AND STALKING HIS VICTIM
Declan Marsden, aged 29 and residing on Healey Lane in Batley, received a two-year prison sentence at Leeds Crown Court on Tuesday, December 2, after admitting to offenses committed against a woman within the Kirklees area.He was imprisoned following a guilty plea to violating a restraining order that barred him from contacting the victim, along with two counts of intimidating a witness.
Additionally, Marsden was sentenced for two separate stalking offences that occurred without causing fear, alarm, or distress.
The criminal behavior took place between July and August 2025 and was reported to the police, which led to his arrest on August 21.
He was formally charged and made his initial court appearance at Leeds Magistrates Court the following day.
Detective Constable Chris Walker of the Kirklees District Safeguarding Unit emphasized the importance of restraining orders, stating, “These orders are vital tools for protecting victims from intimidation and abuse.
Offenders who breach them must face the full consequences of the law.” He added, “Marsden repeatedly harassed his victim over the summer, and we welcome his sentencing for the offences he admitted committing against her." Detective Inspector Ben Beck, also from the Kirklees District Safeguarding Unit, encouraged victims of stalking and related crimes to come forward, assuring that every case is thoroughly investigated.
He stressed, “No-one should have to live in the shadow of this kind of criminality and it is really important victims come forward to help us take action.”
