CONTROLLING PARTNER WHO THREATENED TO HARM UNBORN BABY AND PUSHED EX INTO POOL AVOIDS JAIL
A controlling and violent man named Ian Raymond Hindmarsh, aged 32, has been spared jail after a four-year campaign of abuse against his former partner.During this period, Hindmarsh threatened to harm her unborn child, pushing her into a pool, and subjected her to various forms of physical and verbal abuse.
His victim suffered severe mental health issues, with her contemplating taking her own life, as her injuries included being bitten on the face, strangled, spat at, and hit.
The court heard how the abuse began in July 2016, starting with smashing mirrors and breaking slats on the bed when Hindmarsh pushed her onto the sofa, strangled her from behind, placed his hands around her neck, and bit her cheek while continuing to strangle her.
He also spat at her, threw water over her, and physically assaulted her by grabbing her hair, hitting her, and hurling her mobile phone.
Hindmarsh's defense argued that he is a devoted father with completed drug and alcohol rehabilitation courses.
Judge Christopher Rose acknowledged this but noted the frequent incidents of violence since 2016.
He sentenced Hindmarsh to nine months in prison, suspended for 18 months, emphasizing that the impact on his children was a key factor in not imposing immediate custody.
Hindmarsh's violent behavior and aggression have been ongoing for years, leading to this significant court decision.
