RAPIST JOSE SIBI TO BE DEPORTED AFTER UK SENTENCE
A rapist will be deported after serving part of his sentence in the United Kingdom.Jose Sibi appeared before Teesside Crown Court to be sentenced after admitting a charge of rape and two charges of attempted rape at an earlier hearing, reports TeessideLive.
The 46-year-old, who appeared via court link from Holme House prison, carried out the offences on Teesside a number of years ago, the court heard.
Prosecutor Paul Newcombe said Sibi, of no fixed abode, was a man of previous good character.
In a victim impact statement, the woman said: "I used to enjoy reading, but I can't concentrate because bad thoughts of you enter my head.
I can't sleep at night.
Every day I live in fear.
I am determined to come out of this as a strong person and put this behind me." Judge Anthony Hawks stated that part of Sibi's mitigation was his developing drinking problem.
He also considered that Sibi had pleaded guilty, even at a later stage in proceedings, encouraging guilty pleas.
When passing sentence, the judge noted that Sibi, who moved to the UK from India, would be deported after serving his sentence.
Sibi was sentenced to six years imprisonment, placed on the sexual offenders register for life, and given a restraining order protecting the victim.
The judge added that after serving two-thirds of his sentence, Sibi would be automatically deported.
