PAEDOPHILE WITH LENGTHY SEX OFFENDER HISTORY JAILED FOR CHILD ABUSE
Two men have been sentenced for horrific child sexual abuse on Teesside dating back over 40 years.Pensioner Colin Smith, aged 75, was convicted of raping a boy and sexually assaulting two other children, with evidence revealing he offered to pay a girl 50p to touch her.
On one occasion, he abused a child alongside his friend Kevin Danks, aged 61.
Smith initially denied all charges but pleaded guilty at the start of his trial.
Victims described feeling robbed of their childhood and suffering ongoing trauma, with one revealing they had turned to alcohol and drugs to cope.
Smith has a lengthy history as a sex offender, with convictions from the 1980s for assaulting boys and a prior jail sentence for raping a boy in a public toilet in Salford.
He received a 12-year prison sentence and an additional year on extended license, with parole eligibility after serving two-thirds of his sentence.
Danks, who also pleaded guilty, was sentenced to five years and six months in prison, with an extra year on extended license, with potential release after two-thirds of his sentence.
The judge described Smith as 'utterly depraved and incorrigible,' condemning his attitude as 'despicable,' while Danks's solicitor highlighted his efforts to turn over a new leaf after struggling with alcohol addiction.
