FIFE MAN JAILED FOR FOUR YEARS FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE
A violent offender, Iain Sullivan, who subjected two partners to repeated violence in their homes in Fife, has been sentenced to four years in prison.Sullivan, currently serving time at Perth, had previously admitted to a series of domestic offences committed against two partners in Glenrothes.
During these incidents, he choked one victim and held a knife to her throat, as well as using her as a punching bag for two years and frequently destroying her property.
Sullivan confessed to assaulting his then partner on multiple occasions between 1st February 2017 and 31st January 2019 at locations including Carseggie Crescent, Barnton Place, and Laxford Road in Glenrothes.
His assaults involved repeatedly striking her and choking her, with some actions including pressing a knife to her throat, causing injury and impairment.
He also engaged in shouting, swearing, making abusive remarks, throwing household objects, damaging property, and physically assaulting others, such as pushing a male against a wall.
On August 2nd, on Wellesley Road in Methil, Sullivan repeatedly shouted and swore at his then partner, broke household items, and tried to prevent her from speaking to police.
His defence argued that Sullivan's departure from the army in 2015 due to mental health issues had impacted him, and that incarceration would significantly affect his family.
However, the sheriff criticized Sullivan's behaviour, describing his actions as disturbing and indicative of a desire to control his partners and children.
Sheriff Brown made it clear that society strongly disapproves of domestic abusers, and Sullivan was sentenced to four years in prison, with the sentence backdated to 2nd August when he was taken into custody.
