WELSH RUGBY STAR HYWEL JENKINS CLEARED OF RAPE CHARGES AFTER SEVEN WEEKS OF LEGAL BATTLE
A top Welsh rugby star was yesterday cleared of raping a woman party-goer after "seven weeks of hell".
Hywel Jenkins, 26, was acquitted after the case was dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service before trial.
Jenkins strongly denied raping the 28-year-old woman at a house in Bridgend, south Wales, and after proceedings, he expressed his feelings of victimization and frustration with the legal process.
The case was withdrawn on the grounds of "insufficient evidence" in a five-minute hearing.
Jenkins, of Swansea, thanked the judge and stated, "I feel like I was the victim.
I've been through hell for the last seven weeks." He accused police of mishandling the investigation and plans to sue for wrongful arrest.
Jenkins was once considered a future full international rugby player but faced setbacks, including being kicked off a Wales development tour for breaking curfew.
