GURPAL SINGH GILL SENTENCED FOR BRUTAL SEXUAL ASSAULT IN WATERMEAD PARK, LEICESTER

In a harrowing case that has shocked the community of Leicester, Gurpal Singh Gill was formally sentenced at Leicester Crown Court for a violent and disturbing sexual assault that took place in Watermead Park. The incident involved a young woman, only 20 years old, who was out walking her dog when she became the target of Gill's violent attack on the evening of May 23.

According to court reports, Gill, aged 33, approached the woman in a seemingly quiet part of the park. The assault was described as brutal, with the victim fighting to resist Gill’s advances despite her evident fear and distress. During the ordeal, she was so terrified for her life that she employed various survival strategies, including secretly recording her attacker on her phone. This recording proved to be crucial evidence in the case.

The prosecutor detailed how the young woman repeatedly told Gill to stop and said no multiple times, demonstrating her resistance. Despite her efforts, Gill escalated the situation by threatening to kill her, which significantly heightened her fear and sense of danger. Throughout the attack, she maintained her composure enough to take a covert photograph of Gill, capturing critical evidence that would later support her case.

Gurpal Singh Gill eventually pleaded guilty to three counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault, acknowledging the severity of his actions. It was also revealed during the proceedings that Gill had been residing illegally in the UK for the past seven years, adding a further layer of concern regarding his presence in the country.

Judge Robert Brown, presiding over the case, commended the victim for her presence of mind and bravery in such a terrifying situation. He described the attack as vicious and terrible, emphasizing the brutality involved. In his sentencing, Judge Brown handed down a prison term of 11 years and three months, complemented by an additional six years on licence. Furthermore, Gill was ordered to register as a sex offender for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.
