MAN SENTENCED OVER 585 CHILD ABUSE IMAGES
A man from Pontypool has been sentenced after admitting to possessing a large number of illegal images depicting children.Gregory McGuire, aged 27, pleaded guilty to two charges related to incidents in Cwmbran between August 2023 and January of this year.
The matter was addressed at Newport Magistrates' Court, where it was disclosed that he had been found with 585 prohibited images involving minors.
McGuire, residing on Hanbury Road in Pontnewynydd, received a 12-month community order and is required to complete a 20-day rehabilitation program.
Additionally, the court imposed a five-year order to prevent sexual harm and protect children going forward.
The court also ordered McGuire to pay a surcharge of £114 along with £85 in legal costs.
Under guidance from the Crown Prosecution Service, prohibited images include not only photographs but also computer-generated images, cartoons, manga, and drawings that are sexual in nature, explicit, or grossly offensive.
The possession of such images is criminalised if they depict intimate or sexual activity involving children, are pornographic, or are otherwise deemed obscene or disgusting.
