STOCKTON MAN JAILED FOR STRANGLING AND THREATENING EX-GIRLFRIEND
A boozed-up man named Graham Stewart, aged 64, was found guilty of assaulting his former girlfriend in his Stockton home on December 23, 2022.He attacked the woman after she tried to leave his house.
The court heard he strangled her twice and held a kitchen knife up to her neck.
The victim now fears leaving her house and has been prescribed medication for anxiety.
She has also lost three stone and described herself as a "shadow" of her former self.
During the trial, it was revealed that Stewart met the woman approximately 12 years ago, but they only started a relationship in August 2020.
The judge noted that the attacks occurred after Stewart had been drinking heavily.
The court summarized the offences as intentional strangulation, threatening her with a knife, and stalking.
He was sentenced to two years and three months in prison and was banned from contacting the victim indefinitely.
The victim shared a statement about the ongoing impact, mentioning her stress and hospitalizations and the negative feelings caused by Stewart’s behavior.
