The jury was told that Lord had begun his assault when the girl was very young, and that she had initially viewed him as a friendly figure, often looking forward to seeing him.
Prosecutor Paulinius Barnes described how Lord would manipulate the girl, encouraging her to sit on his knee and, on one occasion, lying on top of her.
The young girl only fully understood the nature of these acts as she grew older, revealing the long-lasting impact of Lord’s abuse.
She recounted feeling overwhelmed and hurt when Lord pressed down on her during one incident, and she was frightened into silence by his warning that no one would believe her if she told.
