DOG OWNER LEFT STARVING PET TRAPPED IN LIVING ROOM FOR TWO MONTHS
A 20-year-old man who left a dog in a house without food or water for weeks has been banned from being an owner.He admitted that between July 4 and September 4 last year, at Viewforth Place, Burntisland Road, Kinghorn, being responsible for a female bulldog ‘Lola’, he caused unnecessary suffering by failing to provide her with adequate food and water resulting in an emaciated body condition.
Thereafter he failed to seek appropriate veterinary assessment and treatment for her body condition, a heart murmur, overgrown nails and decaying teeth.
The SSPCA inspector was told about the dog after she was found by gas repair workers who had gone to the property in Kinghorn.
The property was described as being in a “terrible” condition with many faeces on the living room floor, some mouldy from being there so long.
The dog could not get out of the living room and had no food or water.
She was in an emaciated state weighing just 17.5kg when she normally should have been 27-35kg.
A vet estimated Lola had not been looked after properly for a period of up to two months.
She had developed a heart murmur and her nails were overgrown.
The court was told the dog was taken away, has been rehomed and recovered to a healthy condition.
Sheriff Steven Borthwick imposed a community payback order with 12 months of supervision and Dolan is likely to be given unpaid work when he is deemed fit to do it, following an operation on his wrist.
He will return to court for a review on March 25.
The sheriff also imposed a five-year disqualification order banning Dolan from owning or caring for a dog.
