NOTTINGHAM WOMAN SUSPENDED PRISON FOR ASSAULTING PENSIONER AND THEFT
A woman named Gemma Peat, from Larch Gardens in Bulwell, was involved in a shocking assault outside a KFC on Milton Street in Nottingham.According to court reports, she randomly attacked a frail pensioner on October 20 last year.
During the incident, Peat jumped onto the man's back, wrapping her arms around him and causing him to fall to the ground.
He hit his head as he fell and was subsequently stamped on repeatedly.
The victim, who was in his seventies, was left with bruises to his face and scratches on his head.
He later experienced headaches and confusion, and the court heard that the incident had a negative impact on his mental health.
Peat shouted and screamed during the attack and was described as having jumped on the man and hit him with his own walking stick.
Peat pleaded guilty to assault and theft, the latter involving stealing a trolley of food worth £40 from Heron Foods on Southchurch Drive, claiming she needed the food to survive.
She has a record of over 100 offenses and has previously served time for arson.
A psychiatric report linked her actions to her mental illness, and the judge acknowledged that her personality disorder, exacerbated by alcohol and drugs, contributed to her behavior.
She is now medicated and sober, and her mitigation lawyer stated that she does not seek to excuse her conduct based on her upbringing or difficulties.
Judge Rafferty KC sentenced her to 12 months in prison, suspended for two years, with additional requirements including 20 days of rehabilitation activities, drug treatment for nine months, and regular mental health reviews.
The judge emphasized that her mental health was the primary cause of her actions, stating: "Undoubtedly her personality disorder, fueled by alcohol and drugs, caused her to commit the offence, and it is aggravated by her many, many previous convictions of a similar kind." He also ordered that she be referred to a community health trust to ensure she remains medicated.
