GLENROTHES PAEDOPHILE GARY HAMILTON WHO SEXUALLY ASSAULTED 4 YOUNG CHILDREN GIVEN UNPAID WORK
A man from Glenrothes, who sexually assaulted three girls aged 12 and one girl aged 15, has been ordered by a Fife sheriff to have no unsupervised contact with minors under 16 for a period of 10 years.
Gary Hamilton, 43, residing on Lundin Crescent, pleaded guilty to multiple incidents where, between August 19 and September 19, 2011, at a residence in Glenrothes, he inappropriately touched all four girls by rubbing their legs with his hand.
The 15-year-old was subjected to assault on several occasions from September 1 to September 9, 2011, while the first 12-year-old was similarly abused on multiple occasions from August 19 to September 15.
The second 12-year-old was assaulted twice between August 19 and September 9, and the third 12-year-old was abused on several occasions during September 19.
Sheriff Charles Macnair noted that the offences covered a relatively short timeframe but suggested this might be due to the differing levels of disclosure from the victims.
Although he had contemplated a custodial sentence, the sheriff decided that a lengthy supervision order would better serve public interests, given the perceived risk of Hamilton reoffending.
Hamilton was sentenced to complete 250 hours of unpaid community work within nine months and placed under a supervision order.
Additionally, he was required to register as a sex offender for three years and participate in a community payback scheme.
The sheriff concluded by stating that, for public safety, it was necessary to impose a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO), which prohibits Hamilton from having contact with children under 16 without parental consent and awareness of the order.
