DISGRACEFUL STOCKTON ATTACKER AVOIDS JAIL AFTER CHOKING AND DRAGGING WOMAN
A man named Gareth Metcalfe, residing on Bolsover Road in Stockton, has been convicted of assault following his violent actions in October of the previous year.
During the incident, Metcalfe became argumentative with his on-off partner, telling her he hated her and wanted to kill her.
He then attacked her by choking her and punching her in the face and body, ignoring her pleas to stop.
Additionally, he dragged her around by her hair.
The victim feared she would be killed during the assault, especially after she had earlier given him some of her benefit money.
Prosecutor Emma Atkinson described the attack as 'disgraceful.' Metcalfe was convicted of assault by beating and causing actual bodily harm, as well as breaching a restraining order issued in September 2016.
He was sentenced by Judge Tony Briggs, who stated that Metcalfe had already served the equivalent of an eight-month jail sentence while in custody on remand.
The judge also mentioned that Metcalfe had a lengthy record with a seven-year gap between convictions and had previously tried to stay out of trouble.
A 15-month jail sentence was suspended for two years, and Metcalfe was ordered to attend a domestic violence relationship course.
The restraining order against him was extended for a further two years.
