NORTHAMPTON MAN, 32, SEXUALLY ASSAULTED TEENAGER AS SHE TRIED TO GO TO SLEEP
A man accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl has been handed a six-year prison sentence along with an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.Floyd Kennedy, aged 32 from Druids Walk in Didcot, Oxfordshire, committed the assault while the girl was staying at a house in Northampton where he also lived.
The incident occurred after the girl went out trick-or-treating with a friend.
Once back home and feeling tired, she was left alone with Kennedy, who then forced her to inappropriately touch him over his clothing.
Later, she went to the bathroom and sent messages to her friends asking them to return, without revealing the reason.
They arrived shortly afterwards.
Throughout the night, Kennedy assaulted her multiple times during her attempts to sleep, leaving her shaken and upset.
She sought refuge in the bathroom.
The following day, he persistently urged her to stay silent, asking her to promise she would not tell anyone.
Several weeks later, she revealed her experience to a teacher through a handwritten letter before reporting it to Northamptonshire Police.
Kennedy faced five charges in Northampton Magistrates Court earlier this year and was subsequently convicted at Northampton Crown Court of sexual assault by penetration on a female.
He received a six-year prison term, along with additional concurrent terms for three counts of sexual activity with a female under 16 without penetration, and one count of inciting a female under 16 to participate in sexual activity without penetration.
Besides prison, Kennedy was subject to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a Sexual Notice that barred him from unsupervised contact with females under 16.
Detective Inspector Nina Agg of Northamptonshire Police highlighted the victim’s courage and the importance of justice, stating, “While nothing will erase what Kennedy did, her bravery at such a young age is remarkable.
Thanks to her, Kennedy can no longer harm anyone else, and he is now behind bars.
I hope this brings her some reassurance and enables her to focus on her studies and her future.” The article also urges victims of sexual abuse to seek help from law enforcement or support organizations.
