HUDDERSFIELD MAN SENTENCED TO 8 YEARS FOR TEENAGE RAPE
A man identified as Fashad Ali, aged 28, has been convicted of raping a 15-year-old girl from Crosland Moor and was sentenced to eight years in prison. The judge, Shaun Spencer QC, emphasized the severity of the crime, stating that Ali's not guilty verdict had forced the victim to testify and caused her significant distress.
Ali, of Hackford Close, Bolton, claimed innocence and alleged he was set up, but DNA evidence proved his guilt.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Ali had previous sexual contact with the victim's older sister and visited her in Huddersfield.
When she was incapacitated by alcohol, Ali exploited her vulnerability and raped her.
The prosecutor, Ian Brook, mentioned that the victim was so distressed that she couldn't provide a victim impact statement.
Ali's defense lawyer, Zoe Van Den Bosch, maintained her client's innocence but acknowledged the DNA evidence.
She added that Ali's family in Bolton, including a pregnant girlfriend and a three-year-old son, was struggling as Ali's imprisonment meant they had to manage alone.
The judge highlighted that Ali's refusal to admit guilt led to the maximum sentence; had he pleaded guilty, there might have been a reduction.
Ali's sentence includes serving half in prison before being released on license, and he is subject to a sexual offences prevention order banning him from approaching or communicating with the victim or entering Huddersfield.
The court views this case as a serious example of sexual violence against a young girl, and the sentence reflects the need for justice and safeguarding the community.
